[UNSW, 2009]

A rubbish bin caught fire at the Coogee Bay Hotel Sunday, as hundreds of patrons gathered to celebrate the City to Surf fun run.
Cries of fire were heard from the Beer Garden, and staff members rushed to control the flames.

(NATURAL SOUND GLASSES AND PLATES CLINKING)
It was a beautiful day in Coogee, and runners relaxed in the sun with cold beers and sizzling steaks after the 14-kilometre trek from Hyde Park to Bondi.
But participants of the World Champion Dart competition, taking place in the Hotel’s nightclub, were still in the peak of their game.
Flames erupted when a dart player tossed a lit cigarette into the bin.
Coogee Bay employee Gus Carneol was collecting dirty glasses nearby when the commotion began.
GRAB: ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS SHOUTING ABOUT A FIRE, AND I RAN TO THE BAR TO GET A BUCKET OF WATER. IT WAS OUT WITHIN SECONDS.
With a seated capacity of 500, the Beer Garden of the Coogee Bay Hotel was packed with people on the afternoon of the world’s largest fun run and Australia’s largest international dart event.
Fire officials weren’t called, and no injuries were reported.
